About Us

Lazy J Ranch is a family farm operation. We have farms in Southwest Arkansas and in College Station, Texas.  Begun in 1957 the operation has grown over the years.  We have owned almost every popular breed until deciding to run a commercial Angus cattle operation in the 1990’s. In 2013, we were introduced to the Akaushi breed.  We recognized the potential for improvement in quality and genetics for the consumer, at which point we began the transition of our herd from Angus to Akaushi.

We are a unique operation – owned and managed by a husband- and- wife veterinary team:  Wayne Johnson, DVM and Debra Jackson, DVM. As cattle ranchers and veterinarians, we have a unique set of skills which have enabled us to raise a premier registered Akaushi herd.

Chase Johnson, a 3^rd Generation rancher and veterinary student at Texas A&M, has partnered with his parents to provide high-quality freezer beef from their premier herd.  Farm to table, along with pasture-raised beef is a passion for the Johnson’s.

All our cows are gentle and can be handled with a bucket of feed. We use low stress handling and treatment techniques along with following humane guidelines for raising our cattle.
